I seldom read romances but when I do now, I’ll be reaching for a Josie Silver. I can’t wait to read more by this author. The book had unexpected twists without being too ‘in your face’, and it was just all-round perfect and well done. Silver has a real talent for writing so beautifully paragraphs switch between ‘awake’ and ‘asleep’, which was clever.
It’s not your typical ‘here’s a guy to sweep you off your feet’ book, but actually different and there’s more to it. It covers the topic of grief with elegance, intertwining it with romance/ love in a perfect way. The big dramatic moment is at the beginning, but the pace stays the same keeping you on a tense high throughout. This book has everything you could want in a romance – the moments to make you laugh and tear up a little. I’ve read another of Silver’s called One Day in December which I LOVED, so I had pretty high hopes for Two Lives. But what if there’s someone in her new life who wants her to stay? Then something unbelievable happens, and Lydia gets another chance at her old life with Freddie. So, enlisting the help of his best friend and her sister Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world and starts to live – perhaps even to love – again.
But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to live her life well. So now it’s just Lydia, and all she wants to do is hide indoors and sob ’til her eyes fall out. Because on her 27th birthday, Freddie dies in a tragic accident.
